Portable Luminaire
Portable luminaires or light is one of the kinds of light
sources which are used by many of us in modern days. There are
many forms of these portable lights. Some of the examples are
torches, table lamps, emergency lights etc. They are very
useful and have many advantages. As the portable lights can be
carried to different places pretty easily, they are helpful in
saving the money on fixing a light source to every place in the
house. You can just move the light with you wherever it is
needed. Moreover portable lights consume less energy which
makes it cost and energy efficient. Most of the portable lights
used today have dual power supply system. They can run on a
direct supply of electricity when plugged in or can use the
inbuilt battery when there is no direct source of electric
current. These batteries are often rechargeable and use the
direct source to get charged. Some of the portable lights also
use “Use and throw” batteries which have to be replaced after
they are consumed.
Let’s see some of the variants of portable lights and their
use.
1. Torch lights – They are one of the most used form of
portable luminaire. They are available in
different size and shapes. The batteries used in the older
models were not rechargeable but now you can have torches with
inbuilt rechargeable batteries. You can also find torches with
removable but rechargeable batteries which require a separate
charger. Torches are very useful in dark conditions. Nature
explorers, defense people, police, watchmen etc always carry a
torch with them as they usually encounter situation which are
dark and need a source of light. You can also use small torches
at home to supply lights during power cuts and failures.
2. Table Lamps – It would be a difficult task to find a
person who has not seen table lamps. Most of us have seen a
table lamp and indeed have used one. It is a useful source of
light which can be used to light up a table or a desk. It is
really handy when you have to work without disturbing others.
People who like to read or write often use a table lamp
especially during the night. Table lamps also allow you to
focus light on a book which you want to read. The light doesn’t
get reflected on your eyes which make it easier for you to
read.
3. Emergency lights – People in older days use to light
consumable source of lights like candles during power cuts or
failures. These conventional sources were not a powerful source
of light and used to get consumed in a short duration of time.
In order to have a long lasting powerful solution to the
problems associated with the same, invention of emergency
lights took place. These portable luminaires are usually
equipped with an inbuilt battery which can be charged when you
have the direct supply of current available. The charged
battery can be used to illuminate the light whenever there is a
power failure.
All these examples prove that portable luminaires are useful
devices and play an important role in our day to day life.
